Ventnor

Ventnor is one of Britain’s most famous Victorian health resorts. With its warm microclimate it offers a wonderful suntrap on the part sand part shingle beach. Pubs and cafes line the seafront, as well as amusements and a paddling pool.

The neighbouring Victorian village of Bonchurch is a short stroll along the sea wall and offers quaint cottages and a little 11th century old church.Ventnor Park is along the coastal path with its beautiful gardens and putting green and further along the path is the Botanical Gardens. All around the town of Ventnor you’ll find beautiful walks and views.

The Beach

Ventnor is a sun trap bay sheltered by high cliffs on which the terraced town is built. A steep road winds down from the town past the famous cascade gardens to the seafront. This beach is maintained to the highest standard and is observed by the local longshoreman for its visitors safety.

Ventnor is suitable for families of all ages and is popular for residents and visitors alike. Water Sports are not a suitable activity for this area. There are many hidden rocks and the tide is very strong. For information the local longshoreman are happy to provide this and will be only too pleased to talk to you about the local history. First Aid is also provided by a qualifed First Aider who just also happens to be the daughter of the Longshoreman.

During the summer season Ventnor beach is litter picked on a daily basis. The Marine Conservation Society also undertake cleans at this area, this is to enable them to monitor the waste and research its origin. Emergency equipment such as Lifebelts and an emergency telephone are strategically located along the Esplanade in order to ensure safety at any time of the year. The Inshore Rescue is also close at hand and are always on call by the Coastguard.

Since 1996 Ventnor has not only been able to fly the Seaside Award Flag but has also been successful in displaying its Water Quality award.

Like anywhere, Ventnor has its natural hazards so be sure to read the safety guidelines and have a good time. Information is provided at each area so check the tide timetables to ensure your own safety and where appropriate do not swim when the Red Flag is flying.
